Sixth Formers at Cheadle Hulme High School raised £500 for charity in memory of a former student who died from a brain tumour.
Popular Luke Fallon from Cheadle Hulme, was just 16 years old when he passed away after being treated for a high grade brain tumour. A triplet, Luke and his sisters Alice and Grace had been pupils at CHHS since they were 11 years old. Students held a number of events culminating in a Christmas Jumper Day.
Since his death Luke’s family – mum Lynne, dad Mark and his two sisters – together with relatives and friends, have raised nearly £30,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity. They have now set up a supporter group – The Luke Fallon Fund – with The Brain Tumour Charity where all money raised will go towards paying for research into high grade brain tumours.
Lynne, together with friend and charity supporter Frances Donkin and Kerry Roe-Ely from The Brain Tumour Charity,visited the school to collect a cheque for £500 from Sixth Form charity ambassadors Gideon Coe and Megan Deans and Sixth Form Cabinet President George Dickinson.
Lynne said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to Cheadle Hulme High School Sixth Formers and staff for raising such an incredible amount for The Brain Tumour Charity. This is the third year they have donated to this fund and I hope they all had a fun day wearing their Christmas jumpers.
“I am sure those who remember Luke (left) would know how much he loved wearing a Christmas jumper – Luke had seven jumpers, one for each day of the week!
“Sadly, we lost Luke to a brain tumour in March 2016 at the age of 16 and since then we have raised nearly £30,000 in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity. We hope one day soon a cure will be found for this devastating disease.
“Thank you once again to CHHS for supporting The Brain Tumour Charity in memory of our beautiful boy Luke.”
Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under the age of 40. Each year more than 11,400 people are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour, including 500 children and young people – that’s 31 people every day.
The Luke Fallon Fund organisers have lots of fundraising events planned including a special ABBA-themed evening at Manchester Rugby Club on June 29 next year.
